01 — Philosophy

Attention is earned.

Every brand can produce more than it ever could before. What's scarce now isn't the making — it's the reason for someone to look, and the reason for them to tell someone else.

That reason lives in the brand. Not in the format, the platform, or the volume. So that's where we start, every time.

The two questions

Every engagement comes back to two questions.

01Why would anyone care about this brand?

Not what it sells, or what it does better than the alternative. What changes for a person because it exists.

We look for the answer in behaviour — what people already do, what they avoid, what they ask for, and how they want to be seen. It's usually somewhere in the gap between what a brand says about itself and what its customers say about it.

02Why would anyone pass it on?

Sharing is a social act. People pass on things that say something about them — that they're informed, generous, early, or part of something.

So we build work that gives people a reason to share it, rather than hoping they will.

The four forces

Answering those questions well takes four things, and we think they only work together.

Human psychology

People's choices are shaped by more than they can easily put into words — habit, identity, context, the opinion of someone they trust. We pay attention to what people do, and treat what they say as one signal among several.

Culture

Attention is always pointed somewhere specific, right now. Work that understands the psychology but not the moment can be completely right and still go unseen. Timing is part of the idea.

Data

Everything above starts as a hypothesis. Data is how we find out whether we were right — not how we decide, but how we learn.

Technology

The reason the other three get the time they need. When production runs on systems, our people spend their hours on thinking. Technology is what buys the space for creativity, not a replacement for it.

What we believe about brand

Brand comes first.

Brand isn't a layer applied at the end. It's the answer to why anyone should care, and everything else is an expression of it.

Consistency compounds.

Showing up the same way, repeatedly, builds recognition that budget can't buy. It's slower than a single brilliant campaign and it lasts considerably longer.

Reach the communities that care.

A smaller audience who genuinely care will do more for a brand than a large audience who don't. We'd rather earn a real community than rent a big one.

Say the honest thing.

Part of what a client is paying for is our read on the brand, including the parts that are harder to hear. We deliver that with care, and we always bring a route forward with it.

Name the signal first.

Before we start, we agree what should move if we're right. Then we check — and we tell you either way.

The work has to earn its attention. Everything we do starts there.
